For me, it amazes me how rich in detail and colorful a picture of Donald Duck looks when made in metal embossing. To be able to use the methods and techniques that some consider "obsolete" requires a lot of time researching, practicing, and ultimately appreciating the effort put into creating the original art pieces. For instance, Walton Ford using printmaking to mimic Audubon's 19th-century naturalist art style, and Csaba Markus using a painting technique, the Sfumato, that's most famously used by Renaissance artist Leonardo da Vinci. Long story short, some artists look to the past and actually use the same methods artists they are inspired by use. Then maybe I can bestow a little enlightenment: I've been in advance drawing classes and part of our course is to watch contemporary artists and discuss them with fellow classmates.
